SubTerra  Engineering  is a geotechnical consultancy providing  a  range  of engineering, design and geotechnical services related to slope  engineering.  Our experience ranges from the stabilisation of a 3m high  slope adjacent to a domestic property, to 300m high benched open pit mine slopes.   Our  client  base includes consultancies, contractors, mining companies,  and  both  local  and    national  government  organisations.

Specific services include;

Site Investigation

Desk studies to investigate extent of  potential and existing slope stability problems, use of remote sensing for rapid appraisal of large areas, geological, geotechnical, and geomorphological mapping, borehole logging and ground classification, supervision of drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.

Analysis & Design
Design   of   slopes   in   rock   or soil   using kinematic, numerical and limit-equilibrium methods, investigation  and  back-analysis  of  pre-existing or active slope failures, design of stabilisation or remediation measures for active failures and degrading slopes including drainage, regrading and support.

Support design for soil and rock slopes utilizing soil nails, ground anchorages, rock bolts,  meshing,  shotcrete,  gabions  and  reinforced soil retaining walls.

Instrumentation and Monitoring
Instrument  selection,  specification  and design, layout of monitoring arrays, using real-time data acquisition systems, including GPS-telemetry, provision of hazard warning systems for active landslip monitoring.

Blast Design Optimisation & Monitoring

Design and management of trial blasts to develop site laws, blast  pattern  design  including  pre-split control techniques, diagnostic  vibration  monitoring  and  analysis for blast design optimization, vibration and air over-pressure monitoring for compliance with environmental criteria.

Rockfall Hazard Analysis & Control

Areas susceptible to rockfalls can be rapidly surveyed, and analysed using sophisticated computer modelling and risk analysis techniques.  Problem areas can be identified with confidence so that resources are targeted only where required.  This results in a cost effective rockfall control programme which can minimise visual impact in environmentally sensitive locations
